“…the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service…”

Holding Hands in a group therapy workshop

There are many aspects of clinical social work to love. As social workers, we lean into hard, difficult and uncomfortable situations on a daily basis. It’s who we are and that’s what we do! As a supervisee in social work, you may love what you do but wonder: How should I do this? Can I do this? What should I do next? I know. I’ve been there.

For the last ten years, I’ve been helping supervisees to feel more confident and competent in their clinical work.

Let’s get started doing the work that we love to do!

Graduate school is great and necessary. But after all of those papers and group projects, the greatest teacher of clinical skills is not your favorite professor or the DSM, it’s your clients.

Clinical interventions, in whatever setting you work in, are opportunities to actively utilize learned techniques while leaning into the natural skills and abilities that led you to pursue an LCSW. Therapy is a dance. There’s a rhythm and flow; with a natural cadence. As a clinical supervisor, my task is to help you to tune your ears to the rhythms of therapy by sharpening assessment skills, engaging with the DSM, improving your intervention toolbox. My goal, is that at the end of two years, you will have confidence in your interventions, diagnostic approach and assessment skills and, most importantly, confidence in yourself as a therapist.
